Founded in 1983, Chinese International School (CIS) offers an international, student-centred education from Reception to Year 13 in two languages – Putonghua and English. The school has 1,579 students encompassing approximately 30 nationalities. CIS places a strong emphasis on integrating Chinese culture into its curriculum. Students with no Putonghua language skills are welcome to join the school in Reception and Year 7, but admission in other year levels without some prior knowledge of Putonghua is very limited. Students in the Primary School (Years 1 to 6) follow the CIS Primary curriculum while those in the Secondary School follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Years 7-9, the CIS curriculum in Years 10-11, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) in Years 12-13. Year 10 students attend a one-year academic and residential programme in Hangzhou, China.

CIS provides support to students with Special Needs by way of two Learning Enhancement teachers in the Secondary School and five Learning Enhancement teachers in the Primary School. These teachers provide support for students with mild to moderate learning differences who require additional assistance in order to be successful in mainstream classes. |
Financial aid is available for families already enrolled at CIS who encounter financial difficulties. Financial aid places are also available for interested Hong Kong students in Years 8-12 who demonstrate need and meet the school’s admissions requirements. |
