Individual School Profile
SCHOOL NAME:CARMEL SCHOOL (Shau Kei Wan Campus)
https://www.carmel.edu.hk/
At Carmel, everything revolves around ‘Excellence, Community, Tradition’. Carmel’s Elsa High School Campus is shaping the Jewish future in Asia and beyond. With a strong commitment to the individuality of each student, intellectual curiosity and independent thinking are fostered and encouraged. Through a rigorous, integrated curriculum of International and Jewish studies, leading to acceptance at top universities world-wide and world-class outcomes, students go on to become proactive citizens and tomorrow’s leaders in the Jewish and wider world. At Carmel's Elsa High School Campus, we develop the whole person within our strong moral and ethical framework. Our challenging curriculum highlights the advantages of a Jewish education and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DP) Programmes. This reflects our high academic standards as well as the personal development aspects of the education we offer. We are proud of the way our students grow into responsible and caring community young people, ready for both the academic as well as the personal challenges of tertiary education at top universities world-wide. As the Principal, Rachel Friedmann states: “Our modern world focuses on the skills of communication, collaboration and creativity, as well as care and community. Through the shared Jewish and IB philosophy, we promote these priorities.” Family involvement is key and begins from the moment you visit our campuses. We believe the parent-school partnership underpins a child’s ability to blossom and develop to his or her full potential. Carmel functions as one large family, providing support, care, help and direction. Our International Stream is open to all non-Jewish students from Grade 6 up, regardless of faith or background. We offer an intense English Language Program for non-native speakers and Advanced Mandarin for native Chinese speakers. Chinese and other international parents seeking small classes and English Language instruction find this a welcome environment for their child providing an individualized Hong Kong international school education. Our setting is unique in that we have Jewish and non-Jewish students learning together in the classroom, whilst providing a differentiated program for each where required. Thus healthy academic competition is enhanced by respect, consideration and care for each other and a broad perspective and understanding of our global world. Carmel’s Preschool is housed at 70 Robinson Road, and the Elementary School at 10-12 Borrett Road. In line with the overall vision of the school to help all students develop their personalities, skills and abilities, we provide extra support for Gifted and Talented students and for those students with specific learning difficulties. Our Learning Enhancement is a resource centre which offers support and enrichment to students with an identified academic, social or emotional need, either on a short or long term basis. We also recognize that for some of our students English or Hebrew are additional languages. Therefore, in order for students to access the curriculum and progress in-line with their ability we provide advanced personalized support for each student in the acquisition of both the English and Hebrew Language. |
Tuition fee subsidy is available to families with financial difficulties. Applications for financial aid can be sent on request. These will be reviewed in confidence by the Bursary Committee of the Carmel School Board in an impartial, professional and sensitive manner. |
